Money raised by the Rotary Club of Unley provides and supports humanitarian
and community services in Australia and overseas. Some of the projects
the Club has been involved in during 2001-2002 are listed under the
four avenues of service:

Service Activities 2001-2002
This Rotary year the Community Service Committee were involved
in the following projects.
Indigenous Medical Scholarship - continued financial support
for indigenous medical students.
GROW - financial assistance to this community based self
- help group which is also concerned with mental illness.
Trees for Life - growing and then planting native trees
at Waikerie.
Teen Challenge - the Club continued to sponsor and provide
cooks for Teen Challenge's breakfasts for the homeless.
Salvation Army - supplied Christmas food hampers for distribution
by the Unley Salvation Army.
Foodbank - provided three portable chillers to Foodbank,
a Rotary International project.
Red Shield Appeal - Club members assisted with the Red
Shield Appeal door knock, and the Club also matched Club collections
on a dollar for dollar basis.
Robin Project - constructed bird nesting boxes for this
Rotary project.
Juvenile Diabetes - supported the Juvenile diabetes Walk for
teh Cure.
Australian Rotary Health Research Fund - Donation to the
ARHRF.
Steam Ranger Project - the Club supported a project to
sponsor and accompany underprivileged children on a day trip on
the Steam Ranger train.
Paint Your Heart Out - painted the outside of the heritage
listed Unley RSL Building.
Peter Nelson Leukemia Fellowship - financial support for
ongoing leukemia research fellowships.
Broughton Arts Society - donation to assist with a Christmas
function.

Police Officer of the Year Award 2000 - again a large number
of nominations was received from around the State and Leo Price
from Booleroo Centre was the successful nominee.

International
Service 2001-2002
Australia South East Asia Rehab - (now OSSAA)
- The International Committee supported the move of
the ASEA Rehab organisation to Adelaide and the establishment
of a properly constituted body to run and oversee
the organisation, which is now called the "Overseas
Specialist Surgical Association of Australia"
(OSSAA). Two members of the Unley Club were the founding President
and Treasurer of OSSAA.
Other International Projects:
Finalisation of Avoidable Blindness Matching Grant
Donations in Kind (second hand text books and school sets)
Financial assistance to the Australian Aid for Cambodia Fund
Financial Assistance for RAWCS projects
Set-up and hosted a Rotary Foundation seminar

Attended, as a Club, the Hyde Park Club's 1000th meeting
Police Officer of the Year Award dinner (organised by the Vocational
and Youth Committee)
Visit by Her Excellency, the Governor, at a Club meeting
Programme - Members enjoyed a well balanced array of guest
speakers at dinner meetings encompassing a wide variety of interesting
topics.
Fundraising - The Thrift Shop again proved to be a viable
fund raiser. Gross sales to the end of May (11 months) being $43,468.
Minor fund raising came in from the weekly wine raffle, lucky
squares raffle and the sale of Rotary Christmas cakes and puddings.
